More detail about the Bible Calendar:
The Bible Calendar started as a project at the end of 2008 to help the youth in our church (Iglesia bautista La fe en Cristo) read through the Bible in a year.
Several calendars exist to help someone read through the Bible in a year, but they are based entirely on mathematics: they assign a certain number of chapters to read per day without any recognition of their content. It is possible to follow them and finish the day's reading in the middle of an important teaching, or in the middle of a military campaign! Instead, I wanted the youth in our church to understand that the Bible is organized by content, not by mathematics, so I began to develop a calendar that prioritized the content of the chapters over their number.
I also wanted them to see the relationship between the Psalms and the rest of the Bible, so I began assigning psalms with the daily readings so they could see common themes between worship and the Biblical narrative. At the same time, I didn't want them to miss the experience of reading through the psalms consecutively, so I put the reading of all the psalms in order at the end of the year... a time that in our area of the world corresponds with preparation for Christmas and a break from school, a time when it is difficult to concentrate on more complex readings like Paul's letters or the book of Revelation.
Through the years I've reorganized some of the readings as I've used them personally, used them with couples and families in personal discipleship or assigned them for small group studies in churches. I hope that the Bible Calendar helps you to read and understand the beautiful expanse of God's sacred word.
Lord willing, in the coming years I hope to add and develop the explanations of each of the readings. I write them in Spanish first for the sister website comoleerlabiblia.org and translate them to English for this website. I am developing Bible studies (in Spanish first) based on the calendar for individuals, families and small groups. My dream is to preach through the Bible (in Spanish) in 7 to 8 years using the organization of the calendar as a foundation.
Remember that if you want to read explanations of the readings, go to the page Start Today! and click on the readings in blue. May God bless your efforts to read all His word this year!
